The catchment update will result in Wiens' children attending different high schools, which she describes as a substantial adjustment for her family. "It's a big deal for us. The separation affects our ability to participate in school events and meetings simultaneously. It adds an extra layer of coordination for families," she explains.

Wiens shares that the initial reaction from her younger son was one of disappointment and anxiety. "It was a shock. High school is an exciting time, but it's also a major transition. Changing the plan late in the process didn't help reduce the stress levels," she says.

"I don't believe the intention was to cause harm. I hope HSD learns from this experience as they continue to manage growth in the region," Wiens adds.
